Santander requested my UTR number ( fiscal residency )!

Hi I just wanted to share this experience with you.
I am trying to settle in Las Palmas I have the NIE blanco & a Bank account with Santander all wonderful… last week my Bank asked me to provide the TIN number to find out where is my fiscal residency ( England) … apparently the equivalent is the UTR ( unique taxpayer reference) not this is too personal is like giving someone my cash card PIN number! Is anything else I could give like my National insurance number? If you experienced this please let me know how to solve this problem..
