My husband and I are in Las Palmas for at least 6 months.  I have been spending my time, so far, looking for an apartment.  Having found one now, I am at a bit of a loose end.

I love to swim every day, and am thinking of joining the Go Fit gym, as it's not too far from the apartment.  I've always liked dancing, so thought I'd see what classes are around that area too.

As a retired school librarian (early retirement) I have emailed a local British school, to see if they would welcome a volunteer to help with reading.

We have both said that the one thing we miss, away from England, is talking to people properly.  (There's only so much you can say to the natives, in 'Duolingo' Spanish)

Any suggestions would be welcome

Thanks

Helen

Welcome to Gran Canaria Helen. Being based in Las Palmas, you will find the city full of interesting things to do I am sure. The opera at Teratro Perez Galdos is world class, if you're into that sort of thing.

Assuming you are travelling on British passports, can I ask what visa you are on? Following the awful mess of Brexit,  British tourists can now stay in the Schengen zone (basically most of the EU) for only 90 days in a rolling 180 day period. Any stay over 90 days requires a visa which needs to be arranged in your home country. I hope you're aware of all this but a look at 180 days in Spain on Facebook will tell you a lot more. Enjoy your stay, and pop down to see the parched south of the island one day! There are some excellent signposted walks in the mountains too, and a wealth of lovely little villages inland too. Enjoy!

Ian

Thank you - I have joined Meetup - great suggestion.  If you're in the Canteras area during your visit, do send me a message, and we can meet up for coffee.

Thanks for the reply.

We have got Spanish residency, so that we can stay longer than the regulation 90 days....
