Hi, I'm writing this having had my email ignored by insurance companies........even the one I have my house insurance with! What I want to know is how does car insurance work here. Some people have told me you insure the car and then anyone with a driving license can drive it. That could well be so but it doesn't make sense because if someone steal my car then the robber is insured to drive my car. I have spent so much money on car hire now that I've had bought a nice car. Not a new one. So can anyone tell me, do I insure a car if I buy one or do I take out car insurance on the car and specify the two people who are insured to drive it?  Do you know if you can pause the insurance on it like if you go away for the Summer months so that you would have 4 months of the year that there would be no need to have it insured? In Ireland as long as you have the car taxed, you can leave it on the road outside your house. Is it the same here as in do you tax your car separately to insurance and this allows you to legally leave it on the road so that the police know its not just been abandoned there and can trace the ownership details? I just want a bit of clarity please if you can help. I have so far asked people who have lived here since birth and they probably don't know because they've never had to do it the way Ireland and the UK do it. Finally if there is a reputable car dealer that you would go back to again to buy your next car, could you tell me their name. If you don't want to put it here can you send me a private messaging letting me know who you would recommend. I need an automatic car. I don't care how old it is as long as its been maintained well. Thanks so much for all your help in advance.

Hi there...I have bought two cars here...one from Auto Roso in El Goro and the second from Passion cars in San Fernando...Stefan cars in San Fernando is also appaently reliable he didn't have what I was looking for at the time...both I would recommend...both cars I have insured with AXA via their office in San Fernando I deal with Pablo..there is a guy called Enrique in Porto Rico who was recommended he is a broker...it's advisable to insure your car with named drivers and insure for the 12 months because if it was stolen while you were away it's not insured... insurance is not expensive i pay 300 per year for a small Fiat 500....I think this answers all your questions... regards Tadhg
