We are considering moving but my mother has incurable cancer. She gets a treatment break roughly 12 months then 5 months of treatment. During her break, she would need a blood test done every 3 weeks to monitor her cancer marker (CA125). Would she be able to be monitored like this on the island? She would come to England for treatment. Also, would they do a blood transfusion should she need it?

Sorry to hear about your mother's problems. First of all, the Spanish health system is one of the best in the world. But what would have been easy before Brexit is now much more difficult. You need a visa to stay more than 90 days, and that requires proof of funds for each person, plus private healthcare insurance with no exclusions for existing conditions so that you're not a burden on the health system. That wouldn't be possible for your mother, but if she is taking her state pension she may be able to get the healthcare requirements satisfied by a S1 form issued by the UK government. There's lots of excellent information on the Facebook group Spain after Brexit which explains the new arrangements in detail. It'll be hard work to organise, but well worth it when you get there! Good luck.

Hi daisy  to be honest  I think you would need residencia in Spain before you qualified for that treatment I understand it's very difficult to get residencia now   you require proof of occupancy  a substantial amount of collateral and most important private health insurance

Which I think in your case could be expensive   you could use the 90 day rule here 90 days and home 90  but again you would need health insurance in case of emergency treatment  if I can help any more

There are several Gp surgeries and great hospitals . Private visits for blood tests etc are very reasonsble and great service .

If you are are coming I could recomend a quiet ,private. complex with no steps and ramp to inside with the best view in G C. And onsite organic fruut ,resturaunt ,pool next to apartment no step 24c pool .Also med visits for injections etc .

Txt me if yu have and questions . In GC until END March .
